When the evening of the Emmy Awards begins, a new competition starts for the actresses and actors on the red carpet, who are being evaluated for their outfits the moment they step on the red carpet. Media hosts and hostesses conduct interviews with stars as they cross the carpet to enter the awards event. Fashion discussions range from talk about color of apparel, who designed what, who's wearing to many accessories, and how hot the weather is considering the choice of style for the evening.

Critics quickly find a favorite dress or single out the ones which are tagged as worst dressed. Photos of stars and their partners are taken as they cross the carpet and fashion pluses and detractors are noted on websites, in newspapers and are the focus of talk shows for days following the event.
