• Early Life

  • Emma Thompson was born in Paddington, London, England on April 15, 1959. She is the daughter of actress Phyllida Law. She would attend the Camden School for Girls in her youth, then move on to attend Newnham College, Cambridge.

• Career Summary

  • Thompson's career began with appearances on several British television shows such as There's Nothing to Worry Abbout!, Tutti Frutti and Thompson. She made her feature film debut in the Jeff Goldblum vehicle The Tall Guy. Thompson followed that up with her then-husband's, Kenneth Branagh, film adaptation of the William Shakespeare play, Henry V. In 1992, Thompson received her first Academy Award for her role in Howard's End . She has another Academy Award for writing the screen adaptation Sense and Sensibility.
