Background
While performing in plays during her studies at Oxford University, a producer took notice of Mortimer and cast her in The Glass Virgin. She continued to land roles, and got her breakthrough as Hugh Grant's original love interest in 1999's Notting Hill.
In 2000, Mortimer met her husband Alessandro Nivola on the set of Love's Labour's Lost, a musical adaptation of William Shakespeare's comedy.
Her film career continued through the decade with The Kid opposite Bruce Willis, The 51st State with Samuel L. Jackson, Woody Allen's Match Point, and Lars and the Real Girl in 2007.
In 2009, Mortimer is slated to act in Martin Scorsese's Ashfcliffe.
