Early Career
Pucci first started designing in 1935. He was attending college in the United States on a skiing scholarship and designed the outfits for his ski team. His big break came years later when he was skiing on the slopes of St. Moritz. A reporter from Harper´s Bazaar noticed Pucci´s outfit, and upon discovering it was his own design asked him to create some outfits for a piece on winter fashion. His designs were featured in the 1948 edition of Harper´s Bazaar and the fashion world was introduced to Emilio Pucci.http://www.brandnamefashiondesigners.com/pucci/emilio-pucci-biography.html
Pucci opened his first shop in Capri in 1949. By 1950 he presented his first couture line in France. Pucci set himself apart from the competition by using lightweight fabrics and bold colors. The public adored him and the House of Pucci took flight.http://www.brandnamefashiondesigners.com/pucci/emilio-pucci-biography.html
The Look
The Pucci label is known for bright colors and bold geometric prints. His kaleidoscopic prints became his signature, as well as his revolutionary use of fabrics like silk stretch jersey, a stark contrast to the severe silhouette of the 1950s.http://www.net-a-porter.com/Shop/Designers/Emilio_Pucci
Pucci´s use of color was also revolutionary. Compared with designers of the day, who mostly stuck to neutral color palettes of brown, black and white, Pucci utilized an array of colors including lime, turquoise, pinks, and many other bold hues. His unique asymetrical prints in these shades combined with his use of lightweight fabrics seemingly gave his garments a life of their own. His designs are emblematic of 1960s fashion which he himself helped to influence.http://www.brandnamefashiondesigners.com/pucci/emilio-pucci-design.html
