Early Life
Emil Quincy Brown was born in Chicago, Illinois on December 29, 1974. He attended Harlan High School and then continued his education at Indian River Community College. In 1994, Brown was selected by the Oakland Athletics in the sixth round of the Major League Baseball amateur draft.Baseball-Reference.com: Emil BrownPro Career
Brown was later drafted by the Pittsburgh Pirates in the Rule 5 draft of 1996. On April 3, 1997, Brown made his MLB debut with the team. In his first season, he appeared in 66 games and had a batting average of .179. In 2001, he was traded to the San Diego Padres. He played in 13 games for the team and was later granted free agency. Brown made several more stops in his career, but did not play at the Major League level again until he was signed as a free agent with the Kansas City Royals in 2005.
