eMachines a subsidiary brand of Acer, that specializes in the manufacturing of low-cost personal computers. The company originated in 1998, through a partnership between two Korea-based computer manufacturing companies.
After a failed attempt at going public in 2000, eMachines enjoyed resurgence as a private company, and became the third largest manufacturer of PCs by 2003. In 2004, eMachines was acquired by Gateway for $262 million. In 2007 Acer purchased eMachines as a part of its acquisition of Gateway.
