"Crocodile Rock" is a song written by Elton John (lyrics by Bernie Taupin) and released as a single in the United States on November 20, 1972. The song became his first number one single in the US after reaching the top of the Billboard charts on February 3, 1973, and was subsequently included on his 1993 album, "Don't Shoot Me I'm Only the Piano Player". Elton drew inspiration for the song from the Australian hit "Eagle Rock" by Daddy Cool. Elton greatly admired "Eagle Rock" while touring down under in 1972, and when he got home he began working on a nostalgic yet fun look back on Rock in the sixties. He used a Farfisa organ to create the carnival sound.http://music.bloson.com/Elton+John/Greatest+Hits/Crocodile+Rock/
Crocodile Rock has been covered by the Beach Boys, Bob the Builder, and most recently by the Baha Men for the 2002 Crocodile Hunter movie. It was also covered by Jim Henson's Muppet Band.http://www.worldlingo.com/ma/enwiki/en/Crocodile_Rock
Crocodile Rock Lyrics
I remember when rock was young,
Me and Susie had so much fun,
Holdin' hands and skimmin’ stones,
Had an old gold Chevy and a place of my own.
But the biggest kick I ever got
Was doing a thing called the Crocodile Rock;
While the other kids were rocking round the clock,
We were hoppin’ and boppin’ to the Crocodile Rock.
Well, Crocodile Rockin’ is something shockin’,
When your feet just can’t keep still;
I never knew me a better time,
And I guess I never will.
Oh, lawdy mama, those Friday nights,
When Susie wore her dresses tight,
And the Crocodile Rockin’ was out of sight.
But the years went by and rock just died,
Susie went and left me for some foreign guy;,
Long nights cryin’ by the record machine,
Dreamin’ of my Chevy and my old blue jeans.
But they’ll never kill the thrills we got,
Burnin' up to the Crocodile Rock,
Learnin' fast as the weeks went past,
We really thought the Crocodile Rock would last.http://www.berniejtaupin.com/discography.bt?ds_id=103
