Elmore James

  • Elmore James was an American blues singer and guitarist. During the late 1930s, he began playing electric guitar, becoming a master of distortion and sustain and forging a dense, textured sound that provided the blueprint for postwar Chicago blues. He is often referred to as "King of the Slide Guitar".
  • Career

    Elmore James began his career playing at local dance halls in Mississippi. He moved to Chicago with is unique southern sound. While never achieved superstardom during his day, his technique can be heard in the works of the legends Muddy Waters and B.B. King who heard James play in local clubs and blues halls in the Chicago area.
