He formed the band Heatmiser, which is an alternative rock band from Portland Oregon with Neil Gust. While performing with Heatmiser, Smith was releasing his solo albums. While the solo career soared, the band’s future dissolved and they disbanded. Some of the artists who have inspired Elliott Smith include The Beatles, The Zombies, The Kinks, Big Star, and Elvis Costello.
Elliott Smith life and career were cut short when he was found dead one night with two stab wounds in his chest. At first, the death was thought to be a suicide, but at the corner involved with this case could not determine who did the stabbing.
