Ellen Tauscher represents the 10th District of California in the U.S. House of Representatives. She faced off Republican Nicholas Gerber in the 2008 election, and won.
On March 2, 2009, Tauscher introduced a bill to repeal the unpopular "don't ask, don't tell" military policy that kept gay and lesbian servicemen and women in the closet about their sexuality. During his campaign, President Obama said he would support a repeal of "don't ask, don't tell" though some, including John McCain, continue to feel that having openly gay homosexuals serve in the military could "damage morale".SF Gate: Tauscher moves to end gay ban (March 2, 2009)
