The Elite Squad, also known as Tropa de Elite, is a semi-fictional account of the daily routine of the Brazilian Special Police Operations Battalion (BOPE) as told in the book Elite da Tropa, written by sociologist Luiz Eduardo Soares and two BOPE policemen, Andre Batista and Rodrigo Pimentel.
Since its release, The Elite Squad won "Best Movie" at the Berlin International Film Festival on February 16, 2008.
