Volleyball player and former Olympian Elisabeth Bachman-McCutcheon and her family were attacked at Beijing's Drum Tower on August 9, the first day of the 2008 Olympic Games. Chinese resident Tang Yongming stabbed Bachman-McCutcheon's father, Todd Bachman, to death, injured her mother Barbara Bachman and a Chinese tour guide, then leaped to his death from the popular monument and tourist attraction. The Bachmans were both 62.
