Eliot Spitzer Socks

  • It was reported on March 23, 2008 that former New York State governor Eliot Spitzer left his calf length black socks on while having sex with a prostitute. The report had its origin in a letter about Spitzer's sex practices that was sent to the FBI on November 19, 2007 by a lawyer for Republican political operative Roger Stone. Stone attributed the detail to an unnamed source at a sex club.

On March 10, 2008 Spitzer made a public apology for his involvement as a client in a prostitution ring. Two days later, on March 12, Spitzer announced his resignation, which became effective on March 17. He was replaced by Lt. Gov. David Paterson.
