On March 10, 2008, former New York Governor Eliot Spitzer apologized for patronizing a prostitution ring called the Emperors Club VIP. Spitzer was the client of an escort called "Kristen," who has since been identified as Ashley Youmans. Youmans currently uses the name, Ashley Alexandra Dupre. According to an FBI affidavit, Spitzer paid for "Kristen's" transportation to Washington, D.C., where the two engaged in unlawful sexual acts. Spitzer resigned on March 12, reportedly as part of a deal in which charges will not be pressed. Spitzer would be charged in federal court for violating the Mann Act of 1910, which states that it is unlawful to transport a woman or girl across state lines for "immoral purposes."
