Humble Beginnings
Growing up in an Israeli orphanage, Tahari came to the United States in 1971 at the age of 20. He had only $300 in his wallet, he could not speak English and he slept in Central Park for two weeks until he could get a job and a place to live. He would eventually learn about fashion in The Garment District in New York City as a retailer and wholesaler.
His company now makes an estimated $500 million a year.
