Electronic Data Systems, often referred to as EDS, is an outsourcing company that offers information technology services to commercial corporations. EDS divides these services into three sectors that offer distinct services. The infrastructure division aids in computer and communication networks, the applications division in developing and maintaining software services for clients, and the business division handles managerial tasks like payroll and insurance.

Key Dates

  1. June 27, 1962: Company founded by Ross Perot
  2. 1984: Acquired by General Motors
  3. 1996: Spun off into an independent company, continued to provide services to General Motors
  4. 2000: Won $9 billion contract to create an intranet link between the U.S. Navy and the Marine Corps
  5. May 13, 2008: Confirms plans for a $13.9 billion merger deal with Hewlett-Packard, will be renamed EDS - A HP Company
