In the case of a 269-269 tie in the electoral college vote, the U.S. House of Representatives would decide who would become the next President of the United States.Washington Times: 269 Tie: An Electoral College 'Doomsday'? (September 23, 2008)
Possible Electoral Tie Scenario
Many possible state combinations could result in a 269-269 tie. Under the Constitution, if a tie occurs, the U.S. House of Representatives decides who becomes the next President. In a Democratic-controlled Congress, Obama would most likely be chosen as the next President. However, once the vote is kicked into Congress, any of the four candidates on the two tickets could theoretically end up becoming the President.Washington Times: 269 Tie: An Electoral College 'Doomsday'?
