Eldora Special Recreation Program

  • The Eldora Special Recreation Program or ESRP as it's also known is a program founded in 1975 based out of the Eldora Mountain Resort that helps physically and mentally challenged individuals take part in skiing and other winter recreational activities.

ESRP's mission is to "provide integrated recreational opportunities for people with disabilities that will foster independence through the acquisition of lifetime skills."

Eldora Special Recreation Program is a member of the Disabled Sports USA and Professional Ski Instructors of America Rocky Mountain Division (PSIA-RM).

Some of the programs offered by ESRP are adaptive Snowboard, Alpine and Nordic skiing which include Sit-Ski, Mono-Ski and Pull cross country skiing.

The Eldora Special Recreation Program first began with 10 disabled students from the University of Colorado and 7 volunteer instructors. Since it's conception though it has grown. In 2007, the program gave over 800 lessons to over 140 students.

On April 15, 2008 Al Roker appeared at Eldora Mountain Resort to present the Eldora Special Recreation Program with some help from the Lend a Hand Tour that Roker is a part of every year. ESRP was the second non-profit group to receive help from Lend a Hand.
