The Reventador volcano is located in Ecuador. On November 10, 2008, the volcano secreted lava and ash, sending enough into the air to close down the airport. Exploring Reventador
El Reventador is a popular attraction for hikers, but it's a trip that requires preparation and caution. Travelers are advised to retain a local guide, and should understand that treks can take 4 to 5 days to complete. The trails through the Amazon Rainforest are thick and become quickly overgrown, necessitating the use of a machete. The hiking trail begins near the San Rafael waterfalls and winds up the mountain.
