El Pollo Loco is a California based Fast Casual, Mexican Chicken chain. Launched in 1975 by Juan Francisco Ochoa as a stand alone restaurant, the chain grew within two years, expanding across Mexico by 1979.Official Site: El Pollo Loco History
El Pollo Loco restaurants hosted the "Taste the Fire" promotional event on April 28, 2009. For the promotion, El Pollo Loco restaurants gave away two free pieces of citrus-marinated, flame-grilled chicken, a leg and a thigh, to dine-in customers. Customers were able turn their two free pieces of chicken into a complete meal by adding a small drink or side for only $1 each. In the event that an El Pollo Loco location ran out of chicken, rain checks were available. The "Taste the Fire" promotion was held to deflect attention away from KFC's new grilled chicken.OC Register: Big lines today for El Pollo Loco 2-chicken freebie (April 28, 2009)
Menu Options
What makes El Pollo Loco different from Kentucky Fried Chicken is their extensive menu of Mexican-inspired food options. When ordering their grilled chicken, the dish comes with warm tortillas and a variety of different types of salsa. Also on the menu are their signature burritos, pollo bowls, pollo salads, tacos al carbon and quesadillas.Official Site: El Pollo Loco Menu-
