Hezbollah returned what were confirmed to be Goldwasser's remains on July 16, 2008, as part of a prisoner exchange deal with Israel. Ehud Goldwasser and Eldad Regev were patrolling near the Israel-Lebanon border when they were attacked and kidnapped. The event was followed by 34 days of fighting between Israel and Hezbollah.
