Edward P. Jones

  • Edward P. Jones is an African American author. He was born in 1951 in Washington DC, and attended both College of the Holy Cross and the University of Virginia. He has won the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction, the Pen/Hemingway Award, and the National Book Award.

    His debut book was Lost in the City, followed by his most notable book The Known World. His latest book is called All Aunt Hagar's Children.

  • Career

    Edward P. Jones was born in Washington D.C., and was raised by mother in a single parent family. He was the first in his family to receive higher education, and studied writing at the University of Virginia. He published his first book, a collection of short stories, in 1992. His second book, The Known World, deals with African American slaves and freed black people owning slaves themselves.This book was awarded many prizes, including the Pulitzer Prize for fiction. His third book, All Aunt Hagar's Children, is again, a collection of stories, and was published in 2006.
