Edith Wharton was a 19th Century novelist who chronicled American high society at the turn of the century.
Career
Edith Wharton's debut work, The Decoration of Houses, was a step-by-step guide to interior design. While she was an avid decorator and landscape architect, her professional success came from her fiction novels, including House of Mirth, Ethan Frome and Age of Innocence. Wharton died in 1928 just before finishing her final work, The Buccaneers.
