    Edison Miranda was born on January 7, 1981 in Buenaventura Colombia. Miranda was born to a fourteen year old mother who abandoned him when he was still a baby. Raised by distant family and friends Miranda grew up in the tough streets of Colombia. At the age of 9, Miranda was forced to live on his own, sleeping under trees and eating road kill for dinner. At the age of 12, he worked in plantation fields to earn money and at 13 was a cattle butcher. Miranda started boxing at the age of 15.     Miranda has made a name for himself by displaying tremendous knockout power. In 2006, he lost by unanimous decision for the IBF championship to Arthur Abraham. In 2007, he was knocked out by Kelly Pavlik in a bout for the #1 contender ranking in the WBC middleweight division.
