Edinburgh is the capital city of Scotland, and is their second largest city, next to Glasgow. Edinburgh is located in the south-east part of Scotland, and lies on the east coast of Scotland's Central Belt.
Edinburgh's rugged setting and large collection of Medieval and Georgian architecture, which includes a vast selection of stone structures, is often considered one of the most picturesque cities in all of Europe. It is also one of the major tourist destinations attracting close to 13 million people per year.
Edinburgh was named Scotland's capital in 1437. It replaced Scone as the seat of the Scottish Parliament.
