Edgar Renteria is a Major League Baseball player. He currently plays shortstop for the San Francisco Giants.
On November 5, 2008, the San Francisco Giants signed shortstop Edgar Renteria to a two year, $18.5 million contract. Renteria spent 2008 with the Detroit Tigers. Early Life
Edgar Enrique Renteria was born in Barranquilla, Colombia on August 7, 1975. He attended Instituto Los Alpes High School. Renteria was signed as an amateur free agent in 1992 by the Florida Marlins.
Pro Career
On May 10, 1996, Retneria made his MLB debut with the Florida Marlins. He was a member of the 1997 World Series championship team with the Florida Marlins. He was then traded to the St. Louis Cardinals on December 14, 1998. Renteria earned his first of five All-Star selections that same year. In both 2002 , and 2003, he was selected for the National League Gold Glove Award at shortstop. Renteria played in his second World Series in 2004, when the Cardinals lost to the Boston Red Sox. After being granted free agency in December 2005, he signed with the Boston Red Sox. One year later they traded him to the Atlanta Braves. The Braves traded him to the Detroit Tigers on October 29, 2007. Renteria is the founded of the Team Renteria Baseball Academy. He also was awarded the San Carlos Cross of the Order of the Knight by the president of Colombia Ernesto Samper.
