Eddie Guerrero was a professional wrestler for World Wrestling Entertainment and World Championship Wrestling.
Career
A member of an esteemed wrestling family, Guerrero wrestled in Mexico and Japan before debuting in WCW in 1995. Feuding with Diamond Dallas Page, Chris Jericho, and Ric Flair through his run there, Guerrero won the Cruiserweight Title twice, but always remained at mid-card level.
In 2000, along with Chris Benoit, Dean Malenko and Perry Saturn, Guerrero signed with the WWE. He won the European Title within the first few months of his debut there, and later won the Tag Team Titles with his real-life nephew, Chavo. During this time, Guerrero adopted a "we lie, we cheat, we steal" gimmick, where he would pull pranks and fool referees to get a win, much to the crowd's enjoyment.
In 2004, Guerrero won the WWE Championship from Brock Lesnar, and was reportedly scheduled for a second reign at the time of his death.
Death
Guerrero battled alcoholism and addiction to painkillers throughout his career. These excesses contributed to his death of heart failure on November 13, 2005 at age 38.
The WWE held tribute shows to Guerrero on both its Raw and SmackDown! broadcasts the following week, and inducted him into its Hall of Fame in 2006.
