Ed Davis

Professional basketball player Ed Davis is a member of the Toronto Raptors in the National Basketball Association. Davis played NCAA Basketball with the North Carolina Tar Heels men's basketball team before he was selected 13th overall in the first round of the 2010 NBA Draft.http://www.seattlepi.com/scorecard/nbanews.asp?articleID=162194 His father, Terry Davis, played 10 seasons in the NBA as well from 1989 to 2001.http://www.nba.com/playerfile/terry_davis/index.html

According to Raptors General Manager Bryan Colangelo, it was a surprise to see Davis remaining on the board when they made their pick at 13th in the first round. The team expected him to be selected much earlier, making him an easy pick for the team. After the draft Davis was optimistic about his role with the Raptors during his rookie season, especially as he has a chance to start when he takes the court in the fall of 2010.http://www.dailytarheel.com/index.php/article/2010/06/davis_possibly_to_start_in_nba

College Career

Davis made his college basketball debut with the North Carolina Tar Heels in the 2008-09 season. Playing in 38 games, he averaged nearly 19 points per game. Davis was key in helping the Tar Heels win the 2009 NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament, winning each round and defeating the Michigan State Spartans men's basketball team for the championship. For his efforts, Davis was named to the ACC All-Freshman Team.http://tarheelblue.cstv.com/sports/m-baskbl/mtt/davis_ed00.html

Continuing with North Carolina in the 2009-10 season, Davis was limited to only 23 games during the season after his year was ended early following a broken wrist in February 2010. Before the injury he was on track for a career year, averaging nearly 28 minutes per game, over 13 points per game and close to 10 rebounds per game.http://sports.espn.go.com/ncb/player/profile?playerId=36668 Without Davis, the Tar Heels finished the season with a record of 20-17, going 5-11 in the ACC to place 10th in the conference and fail to qualify for the NCAA Tournament.http://sports.espn.go.com/ncb/clubhouse?teamId=153 The team however did play in the National Invitation Tournament, reaching the championship game where they fell to the Dayton Flyers.http://sports.espn.go.com/ncb/recap?gameId=300912168
