Canadian professional hockey player Ed Belfour most recently played for the Florida Panthers in the National Hockey League. Since 2007, Belfour has played in Sweden with the Leksands IF.
NHL Career
Belfour entered the NHL by signing as a free agent with the Chicago Blackhawks on September 25, 1987. He spent his first two seasons with the Saginaw Hawks in the International Hockey League before making his NHL debut with the Blackhawks in 1989. After nearly nine seasons in Chicago, Belfour was traded to the San Jose Sharks on January 25, 1997. He finished the 1996-97 regular season with the Sharks, then signed as a free agent with the Dallas Stars. Belfour helped the Stars win the 1999 Stanley Cup Championship. He stayed in Dallas until June 29, 2002, when he was traded to the Nashville Predators. Three days later, Belfour signed as a free agent with the Toronto Maple Leafs. After four seasons with the Leafs, Belfour was released and signed with the Florida Panthers on July 25, 2006. He played with the Panthers through the 2006-07 regular season, then signed with the Leksands IF in Sweden.
