EBT
This stands for Electronic Benefits Transfer and is utilized in the U.S. as a means to provide financial benefits to authorized recipients. These benefits are managed through an EBT debit card, which the recipients use to make their purchases.
The benefits received generally fall into 2 categories: Food Stamp benefits and cash benefits as authorized by state and federal assistance programs. Persons who receive Food Stamp benefits can only use these benefits to buy items that are recognized by the USDA. Persons receiving cash benefits from their State, may buy any item at a retailer who participates in this program, and may also get cash back from the debit card. http://www.fns.usda.gov/snap/ebt/pdfs/state-lines.pdf
