Easy Virtue (1928 Film)

Alfred Hitchcock directed this black-and-white silent film early in his directing career, before making his mark in the genre of film noir. Released in 1928, Easy Virtue stars Isabel Jeans as a society wife disgraced by rumors of adultery.

Larita Filton, played by Isabel Jeans, loses her reputation when her abusive, alcoholic husband sues her for divorce after accusing her of having an affair with her art teacher. Disgraced, Larita retreats to the French Riveria, where she meets, falls in love with and marries John Whittaker, played by Robin Irvine. When they return to Britain, however, his family condemns the match.
