Eastern Michigan University is a public university offering undergraduate and graduate degree programs. It was the first normal school created outside of the original 13 colonies.
University History
The school was originally founded in 1849 as a normal school, which was used to award teaching degrees exclusively. It became a college in 1899, then a university in 1959, when the schools of education, arts and sciences as well as a graduate school were added. The school has continued to expand in the years since, adding the business school in 1964 and the technology school in 1980.
