Eastern Kentucky University is a university that specializes in teaching and research. Its athletic teams are members of the Ohio Valley Sports Conference.

In 1906, the Kentucky General Assembly enacted legislation to establish the Eastern Kentucky State Normal School, an institution to train teachers. It became a four-year institution in 1922, offered a graduate program in education in 1935 and granted graduate degrees in other academic fields in 1966.Eastern Kentucky University: About
