An Easter Bunny Cake is a traditional Easter dessert, but it is also one of the great gourmet cakes used to celebrate the coming of spring. There are three basic ways to make an Easter Bunny Cake. Depending on your preferences, an Easter bunny cake can be as simple or as elaborate as you wish.
An Easter Bunny cake can lie flat like a sheet cake or can be made into a '3D cake' by following instructions. They can be made with chocolate cake, vanilla cake, angel food cake or even a chocolate chip cake. You can create a brown bunny cake by using a chocolate frosting for the outside or make a white bunny by using a vanilla or cream frosting. Have some candy on hand for the nose, eyes and whiskers. Consider having a pink frosting on hand for extra details like the inner part of the bunny's ears.
Easter Bunny Cake Variations
- You can use a 3D mold to make an Easter Bunny Cake, which comes in two halves. The batter is poured into each half, the cake is baked, and then assembled. Frosting is used to fasten the halves together, and the cake stands upright. These are generally the most elaborate form of the cake.
- The next type uses a pan that is shaped like an Easter Bunny. This does require special equipment, just like the 3D cake, but it is much simpler. You pour the batter into the pan, bake the cake, remove, and decorate it.
- If you don't have the special equipment you can bake a cake in traditional pans, use a pattern to cut the pieces, and rearrange them in the shape of a bunny.
