  • The East China Sea is located just to east of China, it is connected with the South China Sea by the Taiwan Strait. The East China Sea is what is called a marginal sea, which is defined as being an ocean that is partially enclosed by land masses such as archipelagos, islands or a peninsula, though it does not interfere with the production of currents in the sea.

  • Controversy

Controversy has surrounded the East China Sea for years, developing between Japan and China over the rights to gas found there. Each country claims that the rights to the natural gas deposits should belong to their country; this dispute has been going on for years, with no settlement as of this date. China has started drilling without reaching any formal agreement, although Japan does agree that China's Chunxiao gas field are on China's side of the exclusive economic zone, Japan still feels they should be entitled to share in the natural gas, due to China tapping into an area that Japan feels is theirs.
