East Carolina University (ECU) is a public university offering both undergraduate and graduate degree programs. ECU is located in Greenville, North Carolina in the United States. The University is the largest higher learning institution in eastern North Carolina and is the third largest college in North Carolina. East Carolina University is the fastest growing campus in the University of North Carolina system for six continuous years with the Fall enrollment in 2009 of 27,703 students.
History
In 1907, East Carolina was founded to reduce the shortage of teachers in the eastern part of the state. The East Carolina Teachers Training School officially opened its doors in 1909. In 1920, it became a four-year institution, in 1967, it changed its name to East Carolina University and in 1972, and it was incorporated into the University of North Carolina system.
Now East Carolina University is an institute of the University of North Carolina. ECU provides 104 bachelor’s degree programs, 74 master’s degree programs, 4 specialist degree programs, 1 first-professional MD program, and 17 doctoral programs in four professional schools and colleges. The Campus
East Carolina University is situated on 1,600 acres and the academic facilities are location on four properties. The Eastern Carolina University has nine social sororities, four historically black sororities, one Native American fraternity, sixteen social fraternities and one Native American sorority. East Carolina University Distance Learning
This video explains how East Carolina University makes distance learning easy and annually enrolls 6,000 students online. ECU has become a leader in distance learning. The professors speak about how the online technologies have helped them teaching online. Virtual classrooms are using blue screens to demonstrate teaching lessons. They also use their cell phones between the professors and the students.
