  • History

    In 1907, East Carolina was founded to reduce the shortage of teachers in the eastern part of the state. The East Carolina Teachers Training School officially opened its doors in 1909. In 1920, it became a four-year institution, in 1967, it changed its name to East Carolina University and in 1972, it was incorporated into the University of North Carolina system.ECU: History
  • The Campus

    East Carolina is separated into three distinct campuses: the 520-acre Main campus, the 205-acre Health Sciences campus, and the 600-acre West Research campus. It has three libraries: J.Y. Joyner Library, the Music Library and Laupus Library.
