  • The East Carolina Pirates is a college football team that plays in Conference USA. The Pirates play their home games at Dowdy-Ficklen Stadium in Greenville, North Carolina.

    The East Carolina Pirates football program was introduced in 1932. The team played as an independent until 1947, when it joined the North State Conference. In 1953, the Pirates won their first conference championship. After switching back to independent in 1962, the Pirates played 12 seasons in the Southern Conference, then went back to an independent team from 1977 to 1996.
