Career
One of the few Major League managers to have never played in the Major Leagues, Weaver began managing in Baltimore Orioles minor league affiliate teams in the 1950s before being named manager of the Orioles in 1968. In his first year, the Orioles finished second, but the next year, in 1969 the youthful Weaver led his talented team to the World Series, where they were heavily favored. However, the Orioles faced the "Miracle Mets" that year and lost. In 1970, Weaver won his only World Championship as manager when the Orioles defeated the Cincinnati Reds, although he would lead his team to two more Series in 1971 and 1979. After retiring in 1982, Weaver returned to manage the Orioles again in 1985 and 1986. Weaver was notorious during his managing career for screaming at umpires, and holds the American League record for career ejections, with 97. In 1996, Weaver was elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame.
