Earl Scruggs is a world-famous Bluegrass Banjo player who helped to popularize the 3-fingered "Scruggs Style" of picking. Scruggs rose to fame as a member of the legendary duo Flatt and Scruggs (with guitarist Lester Flatt), winning a Grammy Award in 1969 for the song "Foggy Mountain Breakdown." Earl Scruggs is a member of both the Country and Bluegrass Music Halls of Fame.
Flatt and Scruggs
After meeting when they were both members of Bill Monroe's band in 1946, Lester Flatt and Earl Scruggs decided to start their own band in 1948, calling themselves The Foggy Mountain Boys (also known as Flatt & Scruggs). The duo released a string of hits throughout the 1950's and 60's and became one of the most influential bands of the era, eventually disbanding in 1969 due to creative differences.
