E=MC2 is the eleventh studio album from Mariah Carey. The title of the album to Carey means Emancipation (E) = Mariah (M) Carey (C) to the second power (2). The album fits into many genres of music including Pop, R&B, and Hip-Hop. On track three "Cruise Control", Carey experiments for the first time with Reggae. The fifth track "Side Effects" is about Mariah Carey's marriage to music executive Tommy Mottalo and described it as a "private hell". The title comes from the "side effects" of the emotional abuse she was put through.
Mariah Carey's first single from E=MC2 "Touch My Body" debuted on the Billboard Top 100 chart at #57, but quickly became #1. "Touch My Body" became Mariah Carey's 18th number one single on the chart, surpassing Elvis Presley.
