Vlado Dzihan and Mario Kamien met in 1996 while studying music in Vienna, Austria and formed the group MC Sultan that later on became dZihan & Kamien. Dzihan hails from Sarajevo, Yugoslavia, where he was raised in a musical family. Kamien is from Switzerland, where he was born to German and Italian parents.
dZihan & Kamien are known for their sound which is mixed with jazzy texture, trip-hop rhythms and Eastern ambience. Their songs are hypnotic with a distinctive blend of urbane downtempo.http://www.sixdegreesrecords.com/artists.php?artist=dZihan_%5Bamp%5D_Kamien
Career
dZihan & Kamien are drawn to the music of the Near East and you can hear its influences on their debut album, "Freaks & Icons", which was not released until four years after their meeting. The duo took many trips to Turkey to collect all the musical pieces to create their debut album. "Over the years we've gone many times to Turkey to record our musician friends," says Kamien. "So we now have a library of percussion at different tempos on top of different grooves."
"For this record," adds Dzihan, "we produced about 60 percent of the album, and then we went to Turkey and recorded the live musicians on top. After that we took everything back to Italy, where we were working, and then started editing, resampling, and restyling everything."http://worldmusic.nationalgeographic.com/view/page.basic/artist/content.artist/dzihan___kamien_13050
Their second album, "Gran Riserva", found the group searching even farther for new sounds. They added Brazilian beats, deep reggae grooves and a larger emphasis on jazz. dZihan & Kamien then decided to release a live album, "Live in Vienna". This saw the duo performing on a stage with 20 musicians, including Miles Davis, percussionist Sammy Figueroa, drummer for Massive Attack and Moloko, Andrew Small, vocalist Ma Dita and a full orchestra. http://www.sixdegreesrecords.com/artists.php?artist=dZihan_%5Bamp%5D_Kamien
In 2009, the duo released their third studio album, "Music Matters", on a new record label, Couch Records. They began recording the album in 2006 in San Remo, Italy and finished the album at Couch Studios in Vienna in December 2008. This album saw the duo collaborating with vocalist Helgi Jonsson.http://www.dzihankamien.com/

Dzihan & Kamien- Ocean Air
This video is for dZihan & Kamien’s single, Ocean Air, from their debut album, Freaks & Icons. This video is not the official music video for the song. It is an interpretation of the song featuring people in silhouette dancing to the acid jazz song. Behind the dancers you’ll see an infusing of colors and patterns, which related to the song’s beat.
