The Dyson fan, or Dyson Air Multiplier Fan, is a creation of James Dyson, the inventor of Dyson Vacuums. The fan features a completely bladeless design, and propels air through a 10" or 12" circular ring. It is called the Air Multiplier because of several aerodynamic design features that allow it to push more air than it takes in.
The bladeless design means that there are no moving blades for hands, pets, or other items to get caught in. The design also greatly reduces the turbulence found in traditional fans, producing much smoother air flow.
Balloons and Dyson Air Multiplierâ„¢ fans
Several complex rows and arrangements of Dyson Air Multiplier Fans are set up to demonstrate just how smooth the airflow of this fan really is. A balloon is shown as it's blown along from fan to fan in a variety of unique and unexpected ways. The balloon is both propelled outwards by the fans as well as sucked into the fans from behind.
History
The Dyson fan traces it's roots to the 1970s, when James Dyson came up with the idea of using a cyclone to separate debris in a new type of vacuum. The incredible success of his "G-Force" vacuum cleaners has become a launching pad for new inventions. The Dyson fan came as a result of an idea to create a revolutionary fan with no blades.http://www.livescience.com/technology/091013-dyson-fan.html
