After the defeat of Ma Chao, Ma Chao’s forces were dispersed and Liang Province came under the control of Cao Cao. Meanwhile, Liu Bei usurps Yi Province from Liu Zhang and establishes his foothold in Shu. Hanzhong, under the control of Zhang Lu, became the only city dividing the lands of Shu and Wei. Hanzhong will be a strategically important location in the war against Liu Bei. Realizing that, Cao Cao marches to Yangping Gate to wrestle the control of Hanzhong away from Zhang Lu.
Dynasty Warriors 7 Walkthrough - Battle of Yangping Gate
Player: Xiahou Yuan.
Mission Objectives: 1.) Defeat Zhang Lu.
2.) Cao Cao must survive.
Head east and start engaging the enemy. Shortly after, Shu reinforcements will arrive to the east, lead by Zhao Yun. Defeat them, and continue to head east.
Your forces will inform you of an enemy supply depot in the north-east region of the map. Head to the north-east end of the map, then head east through the empty camp. Head south for a while, then west across the bridge. You will be ambushed. Ignore them for now, and head north into the supply depot.
Since you will be alone, you will be surrounded by a lot of enemies. Use Xiahou Yuan’s second musou to clear enemies in a circular AOE, or his first musou to clear enemies in a line. Defeating Yan Pu will capture the supply depot.
Shu reinforcements lead by Zhang Fei will arrive in the north-west region of the map to rush your camp. Head west to intercept the enemy reinforcements. Use the previous tactics to crowd control, since there will be quite a few enemies to deal with.
Head towards the central base and capture it. You may be overwhelmed by the number of enemy foot soldiers spread across the map. Ignore them since there is an enemy spell that keeps reviving them.
Head north into the enemy main camp. Xiahou Yuan’s AOE musou attacks will be very useful in taking out large numbers of enemies at once. Head to the south-west and south-east corners of the enemy main camp and destroy the cauldrons. Once destroyed, the enemy peasant soldiers can no longer revive, and Zhang Lu is no longer invulnerable. Defeating Zhang Lu should be pretty simple, since he has no special abilities.
