In the end, Cao Cao’s tired troops could not evade Guan Yu. However, Guan Yu let Cao Cao go in order to repay the hospitality that Cao Cao had once shown him. The alliance of Sun Quan and Liu Bei attacked Jing Province, guarded by Cao Ren. Although Cao Ren defended admirably for a year, he was finally defeated by Zhou Yu. Cao Cao decided to stop his conquest for a couple of years in order to strengthen his forces. Afterwards he calls Ma Teng, warlord of Liang Province, to the capital. Ma Teng was one of the signees of the Emperor’s secret decree to assassinate Cao Cao. Cao Cao has him killed, which infuriates Ma Chao, Ma Teng’s son. Ma Chao rises in rebeliion, and Cao Cao marches to Tong Gate to repel Ma Chao’s forces.
Dynasty Warriors 7 Walkthrough - Battle of Tong Gate
Player: Jia Xu. Talk to Guard to begin the mission.
Mission Objectives: 1.) Defeat Ma Chao.
2.) Cao Cao and Xiahou Yuan must survive.
A large portion of Ma Chao’s forces consist of cavalry. In order to avoid being trampled, stay on your horse when engaging the cavalry.
Head south-west of the base and help Xu Huang capture the north-west garrison. Jia Xu’s first musou is a forward AOE attack, which will be useful in clearing crowds of enemies. As always, take care of the enemy archers first.
Head south to the west garrison and help Zhang He capture it. You are given a limited time to capture these two garrisons. If you fail, it is no big deal. Successfully capturing it just gives you a defensive advantage against enemy reinforcements.
Enemy reinforcements will arrive and will charge Cao Cao’s main camp. Rendezvous with Cao Cao, and he will ask you to escort him to Han Sui to the south (marked by a green circle). Once you meet Han Sui, refrain from attacking his soldiers. After a short dialogue between Jia Xu and Han Sui, he will defect to your side.
Go back to your main camp and defeat the enemy soldiers. Shortly after, Ma Dai and enemy reinforcements will appear to charge the camp. Keep your eye on Xiahou Yuan and Cao Cao. Use your musou to give yourself some room; there will be a lot of enemies crowding around you.
Move south-west towards Ma Chao’s castle (marked by a green circle). A short cutscene will play. Stay on your horse and defeat the cavalry and archers first. Use Jia Xu’s second musou, a grapple attack, to defeat officers such as Ma Chao.
