Roloson signed as a free agent with the Calgary Flames in 1994 and spent the next two seasons playing for the Flames' American Hockey League affiliate, the St. John Flames. He shared net minding duties with fellow Flames goaltender Trevor Kidd during the 1996-1997 and 1997-1998 seasons before signing for two years with the Buffalo Sabres in 1998 to play backup to Dominik Hasek.

He was picked up by the Columbus Blue Jackets during the 2000 NHL Expansion Draft, but opted to sign with the Worcester IceCats of the American Hockey League. In the summer of 2001, Roloson signed with the Minnesota Wild, with whom he would play record highs of 45, 50 and 48 games respectively over the next three seasons and saw his first playoff action in 2003.

  • Later Career

In March of 2006, the Wild traded Roloson to the Edmonton Oilers after he had a disappointing start to the season. Roloson went on to backstop the Oilers all the way to the final round of the Stanley Cup championship, but suffered an injury in the first game of the last round. Roloson sat out the rest of the series and the Oilers lost the final game to the Carolina Hurricanes. Up for free agency at the end of the season, Roloson and the Oilers agreed to a three-year contract extension.
