Dwayne Dyches has been identified as one of three suspects who were dragged from their car and beaten by several Philadelphia police officers. The incident, which happened on May 5, 2008, was captured on videotape by a TV news helicopter.

Authorities say the 24-year-old Dyches and two other men in the vehicle are suspects in a triple shooting in that area of the city earlier in the evening. Philadelphia Police Commissioner Charles Ramsey says an internal investigation has been launched into the incident.

Reports say Dyches has a long criminal history, including convictions on drugs, firearms and driving under the influence.

Dyches and the two other suspects, identified by their attorney as Brian Hall and Pete Hopkins, were pulled from their vehicle by a group of police officers. Videotape of the incident shows the men being punched, kicked and hit with batons by the officers, who were responding to a report of a nearby shooting.

Dyches' attorney, D. Scott Perrine, says he will represent all three men seen on the tape. Reports say Perrine will claim they were chased and apprehended without probable cause. Perrine has said Dyches suffered injuries to his eye and leg in the beating.
