On March 14, 2009, Dustin Pedroia announced that he will likely miss the remainder of the World Baseball Classic, due to an injury to his left oblique. The injury is considered a strain and he first noticed pain while taking part in batting practice during a workout in preparation of Team USA's game against Puerto Rico.
