On March 14, 2009, Dustin Pedroia announced that he will likely miss the remainder of the World Baseball Classic, due to an injury to his left oblique. The injury is considered a strain and he first noticed pain while taking part in batting practice during a workout in preparation of Team USA's game against Puerto Rico. He stated that the injury was not serious but that he might miss the beginning of the 2009 Major League Baseball season. He described the injury as a shooting pain. Dustin Luis Pedroia was born in Woodland, California on August 17, 1983. He would attend Woodland High School where he would establish himself as an excellent high school prospect. Pro Career
Pedroia would be drafted in the second round of the 2004 Major League Baseball Draft by the Boston Red Sox. He would make his major league debut on August 22, 2006, against the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. In 2007, Pedroia would become the starting second baseman for the team, and would help spark the Red Sox to a World Series Championship.
