In Hinduism, Durga is a beautiful warrior goddess who fights evil demons who embody such forces as jealousy, fear, and hate. The nine-day festival of Durga Puja in Bengal, India, is devoted to the worship of the goddess, who is often also called "Mother Durga." For Hindus, Durga embodies shakti, or female creative energy.
Durga is often depicted with multiple arms and three eyes. In traditional artistic representations, she often rides a tiger as she battles demons.
