DuckTales: The Movie - Treasure of the Lost Lamp is a Disney Animated Film released in 1990. Although it was released in theaters, the movie was produced by Walt Disney Television Animation and thus is not categorized with Disney's other feature length animated movies. The movie follows the familiar DuckTales cast on a Middle-Eastern adventure to retrieve a magical, wish-granting lamp.
Wealthy Ducks, Poor Performance
The movie was commercially unsuccessful in the face of other popular family movies released in the same general time frame. Its poor performance forced the studio to cancel several sequels that they had already planned to release.
What's In A Name?
The film was criticized for being too similar to the Indiana Jones series, and deviating too far from Carl Barks' Uncle Scrooge comics upon which the DuckTales series was based. As a result, the studio decided that their subsequent movie releases should not bear any resemblance to the TV series upon which they are based. This is why A Goofy Movie was so dissimilar to its source, the Goof Troop animated series.
